A brother and sister with a very close relationship are forced to find new ways to relate to each other and their surroundings when their mother becomes terminally ill.

synopsis

Helena and her brother, both in their 20s, spend the summer with their mother in the city. But the happiness that the holiday usually brings has gone as their mother is terminally ill. The pressure of a possible death weighs heavily on Helena and she turns away. The room where her mother lies becomes a taboo; dirty, tainted, occupied by a body that is stripped of its dignity. In panic, Helena's brother keeps everything hidden from the outer world and nurses his mother in silence.
Helena et son frère, tous deux dans la vingtaine, sont avec leur mère dans la ville où ils passent chaque année les grandes vacances. Mais la paix et la joie habituelles des vacances se sont soudainement envolées. Leur mère est gravement malade. La pression d’une mort probable pèse lourdement sur Helena et la fait tourner le dos. La chambre dans laquelle sa mère est alitée devient un tabou. Sale, polluée, habitée par un corps qui est privé de sa dignité. Dans la panique, le frère d’Helena cache tout au monde extérieur et soigne sa mère en silence.
Helena en haar broer, beiden twintigers, zijn met hun moeder in de stad waar ze jaarlijks de zomer doorbrengen. De rust en uitgelatenheid die een vakantie zou moeten zijn, is echter wrang omgeslagen. Hun moeder is zwaar ziek. De druk van een mogelijk nakende dood weegt zwaar op Helena en ze keert zich af. De kamer waar haar moeder ligt wordt een verboden ruimte. Helena’s broer houdt in paniek alles voor de buitenwereld verborgen en verzorgt in stilte hun moeder.
Een broer en een zus. Twee mensen met een nauwe band, vertrouwd in elkaars aanwezigheid, lichaam en gedragingen, bevinden zich in een veranderende situatie. Beiden op zoek naar nieuwe manieren zich te verhouden tot elkaar en hun omgeving.
