A documentary about the training of patrol dogs and the intimate connection between animals and humans.

synopsis

Several dogs are being trained as patrol dogs. Their owners teach them the choreographies of police work: biting and letting go, following and staying, always at their owner's command. Longingly gazing upwards, the dogs seem intimately connected with their trainers. They are tamed and domesticated; their life is directed by humans. At the same time they are always the elusive other in the gap that divides humans and animals.
Quelques chiens sont entraînés à devenir des chiens de patrouille. Leurs maîtres leur apprennent les chorégraphies du travail policier : mordre et lâcher, suivre et rester, toujours respecter le signal de leur maître. Le regard affectueux incliné vers le haut, ces chiens semblent être tendrement liés à leurs maîtres. Ils sont domptés et domestiqués ; leur vie est dirigée par les hommes. Parallèlement, ils demeurent l’autre insaisissable. Il existe un fossé entre les hommes et les animaux, et depuis l’autre rive, les chiens nous regardent.
Een aantal honden wordt getraind tot patrouillehond. Hun baasjes leren hen de choreografieën van het politiewerk. Bijten en loslaten, volgen en blijven, steeds op het teken van hun meester. Hun blik verlangend naar boven gericht lijken de honden innig verbonden met hun baasje. Ze zijn getemd en gedomesticeerd; hun leven wordt geregisseerd door mensen. Tegelijk blijven ze altijd de ongrijpbare ander. Er gaapt een kloof tussen mensen en dieren en vanaf de andere zijde kijken deze honden ons aan.
