The arrival of the first giraffe in France in the spring of 1827 changes fashionable society, who find themselves in thrall to the exotic animal.

synopsis

In the spring of 1827, after a long and tumultuous journey, a ship enters the port of Marseille. On board is a giraffe, the first in the history of modern Europe. Immediately after its arrival, fashionable ladies and gentlemen start to imitate the giraffe's looks. On her way to the 'Jardin des Plantes', the giraffe stops at a charming Château, which belongs to Zélise, the lonely Marquise de Malibran. While guests arrive for a 'Soirée à la Girafe', she waits in her boudoir and sings about far away places. An Oriental summer breeze encloses the castle and holds Zélise and her contemporaries in its thrall...
Au printemps de 1827, après un long et tumultueux voyage, un navire entre au port de Marseille. A bord se trouve une girafe, la première dans l’histoire de l’Europe moderne. Immédiatement après son arrivée, les dames à la mode et les mirliflores en vogue se mettent à imiter la tournure de la girafe. La France est ensorcelée par l’apparence du quadrupède exotique. En route vers le Jardin des Plantes, la girafe fait halte dans un charmant château qui appartient à Zélise, la solitaire marquise de Malibran. Alors que des invités arrivent à la 'Soirée à la Girafe', la marquise attend dans son boudoir et chante des lieux lointains. Une brise d’été orientale enveloppe le château et tient Zélise et ses contemporains en son emprise. C’est le début d’un jeu de séduction et de sensualité, saupoudré de désir romantique.
