synopsis

Is Belgium the ugliest country in the world? Archibelge! takes a unique look at the lifestyle of people living in everyday Belgian architecture. We travel through the countryside and through towns until we reach the Belgian coast, in search of unusual buildings seen through the eyes of people who use them on a day-to-day basis.
Archibelge! fait l’objet d’un documentaire de création en trois volets (3 x ’52) proposant un regard particulier sur la manière de penser et de vivre dans l’architecture belge classique. Nous voyageons à la campagne, en ville et rejoignons la côte belge, à la recherche de constructions particulières décrites par des personnes qui les utilisent tous les jours.
België heeft op zijn zachtst gezegd een bijzondere look. Aan welke kant van de taalgrens je ook staat, welke steenweg je ook berijdt, welke stad of regio je ook doorkruist, nergens anders ter wereld kom je deze bizarre en intrigerende vorm van urbanisatie tegen. Of beter geformuleerd: elk gebrek aan urbanisatie. Deze bijzondere kijk op architectuur heeft België haar uitzicht van vandaag gegeven. Ons architecturale landschap is dan ook moeilijk te vatten, is alles en niets tegelijkertijd, een uniek concept op zich.
De driedelige documentaireserie Archibelge! benadert de typische fenomenen van onze Belgische architectuur vanuit onszelf. Het vertrekpunt is telkens de Belg die de fascinerende diversiteit aan gebouwen dagdagelijks gebruikt. We vragen ons af hoe België is kunnen evolueren tot hoe het er vandaag uitziet en stellen de vragen hoe het verder moet, nu de bebouwbare oppervlakte steeds schaarser wordt.
Archibelge is een fascinerende reis langs Belgische steenweg op het platteland, via Brussel, tot aan de Belgische kust.
