February 2004. Eight European women and mothers want to conquer the highest summit of America: the 7.000 metres Mount Aconcagua. But it is not an all-day dream. These women share one common past... breast cancer. They have not only fought cancer, but also the label of being a patient for life. Now, the mountain is their antidote. In particular for one woman with whom the cancer reoccurred.
Deze documentaire vertelt het verhaal van 8 vrouwen die na hun (voorlopige) overwinning op kanker, ook nog de hoogste berg van de Andes willen beklimmen. ‘Voorlopig’ want bij één van de acht is er opnieuw kanker vastgesteld. Toch beslist ook deze vrouw om aan de expeditie deel te nemen. Op initiatief van Katelijne Van Heukelom (die in haar leven herhaaldelijk met kanker geconfronteerd werd) vertrekken 8 vrouwen naar de grens tussen Argentinië en Chili. Daar wacht hen de hoogste berg van het Westelijk halfrond: de Aconcagua (bijna 7000 meter hoog). De vrouwen zijn allemaal moeder en hebben ook allemaal een gevecht tegen borstkanker achter de rug. Ze zullen met hun extra zware inspanning bewijzen dat ze niet zomaar als patiënt willen bestempeld worden. Dat stigma is er immers nog altijd, in gans Europa overigens. De vrouwen komen dan ook ondermeer uit Denemarken, Finland en Vlaanderen en ze variëren ook erg in leeftijd.
