Bonnie is eight-years-old and lives with her mother and grandmother. Her mother is a bit weird. She tends to stay in bed for weeks on end and then, all of a sudden, she gets up and jumps around the house in overdrive. Bonnie is lucky to have a perfect, rational grandmother that holds the family together. It's like the elephants, Bonnie says, it is the oldest female that leads the pack.

synopsis

Bonnie is eight-years-old and lives with her mother and grandmother. Her mother is a bit weird. She tends to stay in bed for weeks on end and then, all of a sudden, she gets up and jumps around the house in overdrive. Bonnie is lucky to have a perfect, rational grandmother that holds the family together. It's like the elephants, Bonnie says, it is the oldest female that leads the pack. One day, Bonnie's grandmother dies and her world topples. Bonnie is desperately trying to cope with her lonely mother who can't seem to get up in the morning nor cook in the evening. A social worker wants to put Bonnie in an adoption home. But she wants to stay with her mum. It's like the elephants, Bonnie says, a daughter holds on to the tail of her mother.
Bonnie a huit ans et vit avec sa mère et sa grand-mère. Sa mère est un peu étrange. Elle a l’habitude de rester au lit pendant des semaines et puis, tout à coup, elle se lève et saute de manière hyperactive dans toute la maison. Bonnie est contente d’avoir une grand-mère parfaite et rationnelle qui garde la famille unie. La petite fille dit que c’est comme chez les éléphants: c’est la femelle la plus âgée qui mène la troupe. Un jour, la grand-mère de Bonnie meurt et son monde bascule. Bonnie essaie désespérément de s’en sortir seule avec sa mère qui semble ne pas pouvoir se lever le matin ni faire la cuisine le soir. Un assistant social veut placer Bonnie dans une maison d’adoption. Mais elle veut rester avec sa maman. C’est comme chez les éléphants dit la fillette : la fille s’accroche à la queue de sa mère.
