Based upon real testimonies, this hybrid film tells the story of Tania, a teenage girl forced into prostitution in the gold mining region of Peru.

synopsis

The Amazon flows lazily through the goldmine-gashed landscape of northern Peru. Using real eyewitness accounts, the directors tell the story of a young woman who winds up forced into prostitution when her initially hopeful attempt to escape the stifling limitations of village life goes wrong. Step by step, she is robbed of her moral and physical integrity. The film reconstitutes a space of dignity and returns voice and identity to that which has been formally rendered nameless. With its powerful imagery, the girl's traumatic odyssey embodies the horrific devastation visited upon the natural world by contemporary industrial society.
Basé sur des témoignages réels, ce film hybride raconte le destin de Tania, une adolescente contrainte à se prostituer dans la région des mines d’or du Pérou. Tania se remémore son enlèvement après s’être laissé piéger par de fausses promesses de richesse. Elle se souvient aussi de la perte progressive de son identité, qui a changé sa vie pour toujours. Tout en partageant son histoire avec un policier, l’adolescente égrène ses souvenirs. Alors que Tania parle, la caméra nous emmène de la jungle à la région minière, de sa maison où sa grand-mère est décédée jusqu’à ces bars de prostitution au cœur même de son exploitation sexuelle. Les paysages de l'Amazonie, les bidonvilles flottants et la jungle contrastent avec le caractère sombre de l'histoire, la pauvreté et le témoignage poignant d'une jeune fille. Et bien qu'elle soit aujourd’hui en sécurité, là où brillaient autrefois sa dignité et sa jeunesse, elle montre une connaissance de soi plus profonde et plus sombre. La ruée fébrile vers l'or combinée à la destruction de l'environnement résonne comme une allégorie de la vie sacrifiée sur l’autel du capitalisme.
Gebaseerd op getuigenissen, vertelt deze hybride film het lot van Tania, een jongvolwassene die verplicht werd zich te prostitueren in de streek rond de goudmijnregio van Peru. Verleid door valse werkbeloftes herinnert ze zich haar ontvoering en het toenemend verlies van haar identiteit. Terwijl ze haar verhaal druppelsgewijs vertelt aan een politieagent voert de camera ons van de jungle naar de mijnstreek, tot in de bars waar haar seksuele uitbuiting heeft plaatsgevonden. De Amazonelandschappen staan in schril contrast met haar somber verhaal en het dagelijkse leven in de armoedige voorsteden. Hoewel ze vandaag in veiligheid verkeert, op de plaats waar ze ooit in waardigheid haar jeugd beleefde, geeft ze uiting aan een diepere en bittere zelfkennis. De goudkoorts en de gelijktijdige vernietiging van de omgeving klinken als een allegorie van het leven, geofferd op het altaar van het kapitalisme.
