Café Derby tells the tragic-comic story of Georges, a born seller who believes he can make a fortune, and his disbelieving, somewhat dysfunctional family.

synopsis

1985: Georges is a born stallholder who can sell anything to anyone. Always. When he hears that the Pope is coming to Belgium, he senses his chance as tens of thousands of believers will be attending a Holy Mass and the adjacent Café Derby is up for rent. Georges is convinced that a fortune can be made there, but his world-weary wife and five children have seen it all before...
1985. Georges is een geboren marktkramer. Als gedreven commerçant verkoopt hij alles, altijd, aan iedereen. Wanneer hij hoort dat de paus naar België komt, ruikt hij zijn kans. Naast het terrein waar tienduizenden gelovigen een openluchtmis zullen bijwonen, staat Café Derby te huur. Georges weet zeker dat hier een klein fortuin te verdienen valt. Maar zijn vrouw en vijf kinderen zijn niet meteen overtuigd. Het zou de zoveelste verhuis zijn in veel te korte tijd. Maar als Georges zijn zinnen op iets zet..

Café Derby vertelt het tragikomische verhaal van een lichtjes maar vrolijk gestoorde familie, geïnspireerd op waar gebeurde feiten.
