A symbolic portrayal of anorexia through the story of Sam, a teenager who seeks solace in a fishbowl as an escape from bullying.

synopsis

Fourteen-year-old Sam is being bullied at school and takes refuge under a desk. In desperation, he puts the teacher's fishbowl over his head to protect himself from his tormentor. As he walks down the school's dark hallway, he glimpses his reflection. Seeing himself distorted by the bowl, his anxieties grow as he tries to shape his body to fit inside. When he encounters his mother, she reaches out to help him, but Sam remains hidden in his protective shell, unsure if he can face the world outside.
De veertienjarige Sam wordt op school gepest en zoekt toevlucht onder de lessenaar. Uit wanhoop zet hij de visbokaal van de leerkracht op zijn hoofd om zichzelf te beschermen tegen zijn pester. Terwijl hij door de donkere gang van de school loopt, vangt hij een glimp op van zijn reflectie. Wanneer hij zichzelf ziet, vervormd door de bokaal, groeien zijn angsten terwijl hij probeert zijn lichaam te vormen om erin te passen. Wanneer hij zijn moeder tegenkomt, reikt ze naar hem uit om hem te helpen, maar Sam blijft verscholen in zijn beschermende schuilplaats, niet zeker of hij de wereld buiten onder ogen kan zien.
