A documentary about the cemetery of Kintambo, one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo.

synopsis

The cemetery of Kintambo is one of the oldest and largest cemeteries in Kinshasa, the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo. Over the years, the city has increasingly invaded the cemetery and shanty towns have sprung up alongside it. One of these is the populated slum area of Camp Luka where the living and the dead live in close proximity. Although the cemetery was officially closed by the authorities, the people from the camp continue to bury their dead there. This film follows one group of grave-diggers in the cemetery, where mourning rituals and funerals are regarded as as anti-social and anti-political.
Le cimetière de Kintambo est l’un des plus grands et plus vieux cimetières de Kinshasa, la capitale de la République démocratique du Congo. Au fil des ans, la ville a de plus en plus envahi le cimetière, et des bidonvilles se sont créés tout du long. L’un d’eux est la région peuplée de Camp Luka, aussi connu sous le nom de « l’Etat ». Là-bas, la vie et la mort se côtoient. Bien que le cimetière ait officiellement été fermé par les autorités, les habitants de Camp Luka continuent d’y enterrer leurs morts. Ce film suit un groupe de fossoyeurs dans le cimetière de Kintambo, où les rituels de deuil et funérailles sont devenus des moments de soulèvements et de contestations contre l’ordre public et social.
