• Fiercely imaginative and deeply gifted, Charlotte Salomon dreams of becoming an artist. Her first love applauds her talent, which emboldens her resolve. But the world around her is changing quickly and dangerously, limiting her options and derailing her dream. When anti-Semitic policies inspire violent mobs, she leaves Berlin for the safety of the South of France. There she begins to paint again, and finds new love. But her work is interrupted, this time by a family tragedy that reveals an even darker secret. Believing that only an extraordinary act will save her, she embarks on the monumental adventure of painting her life story.
• Charlotte est un film d'animation qui raconte l'histoire vraie de Charlotte Salomon, une jeune peintre juive allemande qui grandit à Berlin à la veille de la Seconde Guerre mondiale. Férocement imaginative et profondément douée, elle rêve de devenir une artiste. Son premier amour applaudit son talent, ce qui la conforte dans sa détermination. Mais le monde qui l'entoure change rapidement et dangereusement, limitant ses options et faisant dérailler son rêve. Lorsque les politiques antisémites inspirent des foules violentes, elle quitte Berlin pour se réfugier dans le sud de la France. Là, elle recommence à peindre et trouve un nouvel amour. Mais son travail est interrompu, cette fois par une tragédie familiale qui révèle un secret encore plus sombre. Convaincue que seul un acte extraordinaire pourra la sauver, elle se lance dans l'aventure monumentale de peindre l'histoire de sa vie.
