The story of five local bars in Flanders Field and their owners who are trying to keep them going despite local inertia.

synopsis

Cheers & Cheerio is a documentary about five old local pubs in the Belgian region of Flanders Fields. These local pubs once attracted whole communities, but time consumed their clientele one by one, and is about to do the same with their owners: Gisèle, Alice, Julien and Lies. The youngest is 75, the eldest 89. Each morning, day in day out, they wait impatiently for their first customer. All except Lucienne: her heart faltered, so the pub closed down.
Cheers & Cheerio est un documentaire sur cinq bars locaux dans la région belge des champs flamands. Il fut un temps où ces bars locaux attiraient des communautés entières. Mais le temps emporta les clientèles une à une, et est sur le point d’en faire de même avec les propriétaires : Gisèle, Alice, Julien et Lies. Le plus jeune à 75 ans, le plus vieux en a 89. Chaque matin, jour après jours, ils attendent..., impatiemment l’arrivée de leur premier client. Tous sauf Lucienne. Alors que son coeur s’affaiblissait, elle ferma son bar. Le temps et l’effet dévastateur de celui-ci dans le coeur et l’esprit de nos protagoniste : c’est là toute la problématique du film. L’amitié et l’humour. La solitude. La persévérance. Se raccrocher à ce qu’ils avaient avant tandis qu’ils en perdent chaque seconde. Ce sont des histoires. Ces cinq bars locaux et leur génération disparaîtront sans aucun doute. Cheers & Cheerio glace le temps, le retient un peu plus longtemps, et le sert chaleureusement.
