Carly, who translates from Japanese in the European Parliament, becomes fascinated by the punkish sub-culture.

synopsis

Carly works late in the European Parliament, but wants to prepare a documentary about Japanese subcultures. Carly translates monotonously from Japanese, but more and more she becomes attracted by the punk looking girls being interviewed. An actress plays the role of Carly, but the interviews with the Japanese girls are documentary footage shot by An van Dienderen in Harajuku, Tokyo. This minimalist portrait reflects the complexities of translation in the European Parliament, the only place worldwide where all the texts used and produced are translated daily into as many as 23 languages.
Carly travaille tard le soir dans un cabinet de traduction, l’un des nombreux cabinets situés dans l’un des sombres halls pléniers du Parlement européen. Elle veut y préparer la traduction d’un documentaire japonais qui parle de la subculture japonaise. Sans intérêt particulier pour le sujet, Carly traduit continuellement à partir du japonais. Cependant, bien qu’au début elle travaille automatiquement en se concentrant uniquement sur la traduction, dirigeant son regard vers le drapeau européen placé au milieu du hall, de plus en plus, elle se sent attirée et s’intéresse à la jeune fille punk qui est interviewée.
