Attempting to follow in his father's footsteps, Felix signs up for an Italian semi-pro cycling team but soon discovers that his body is not made for the game.

synopsis

Felix grows up as an inside spectator at veterans' bike races - a violent, drug-infused world where his father dominates with both pedals and fists. Felix follows in his father's footsteps, making him proud but jealous at the same time. On his way to becoming a pro rider, he rebels and flees to Italy, the promised land of youth cycling. However, his body doesn't respond to the widespread miracle drug EPO and he ends up drained by the brutal training. His father comes to the rescue with a blood transfusion. Now nothing can stop them, not even the threat of cancer. After all, what is cancer compared to winning the race of your dreams?
Le jeune Fe_lix Vereecke grandit comme un initié dans les courses cyclistes d'une association de vétérans ; un monde étrange infecté par l'alcool, la violence et les substances interdites où son père Mathieu règne en maître, tant avec ses pédales que ses poings. Félix doit devenir coureur à tout prix, il se sacrifierait pour ça. Son père s’investit pleinement dans ce rêve. Il voit en son fils l'occasion de réaliser ses propres rêves de cycliste échoués. A cause de sa puberté retardée, les premières courses du jeune Félix sont désastreuses, à la grande honte de Mathieu. Une fois adulte, Felix fait cependant preuve de talent. Son succès lui vaut l'admiration, mais aussi la jalousie de son père. En tant que champion national prometteur, Félix suit sa propre voie. Il veut aller tenter sa chance dans le monde des jeunes cyclistes : l'Italie. Cependant, la concurrence féroce et sa santé fragile lui jouent des tours. Mais les liens du sang sont plus forts que tout. Lorsque un Fee Felix in België op bezoekfri_lix affaibli revient en visite en Belgique, Mathieu lui fait une transfusion sanguine avec son propre sang. De jonge Felix Vereecke groeit op als een insider op wielerwedstrijden van een veteranenbond: een bizarre wereld gei_nfecteerd met alcohol, geweld en verboden middelen waar zijn vader Mathieu de scepter zwaait, zowel met de pedalen als met de vuisten. Felix moet en zal ook coureur worden, daar heeft hij alles voor over. Zijn vader gaat ook ten volle voor deze droom. Hij ziet in zijn zoon een kans om zijn eigen mislukte wielerdromen waar te maken. Omwille van zijn vertraagde puberteit zijn de eerste wedstrijden van de jonge Felix rampzalig, tot grote schande van Mathieu. Eenmaal volgroeid geeft Felix echter blijk van talent. Zijn succes levert hem de bewondering maar ook de jaloezie op van zijn vader. Als nationaal beloftekampioen gaat Felix zijn eigen weg. Hij wil het gaan waarmaken in het beloofde land van het jeugdwielrennen, Italië. De moordende concurrentie en zijn frêle gezondheid spelen hem echter parten. Maar het bloed kruipt waar het niet gaan kan. Als de verzwakte Felix in België op bezoekfri komt, geeft Mathieu hem een bloedtransfusie met zijn eigen bloed. Zo kan er toch een stukje van hem bij zijn wanneer zijn zoon hun gedeelde droom - de leiderstrui in de gerenommeerde Baby Giro - kan pakken. Mathieu blijft zijn bloed afstaan, zelfs via de post. Nu zal niks hen nog tegenhouden. Zelfs niet het risico op kanker. Want wat stelt kanker nu eenmaal voor als je de koers van je dromen kan winnen?
