synopsis

DplusOne examines a newly installed electronic trade system set in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. The Ethiopian Commodity Exchange (ECX) for coffee, sesame, maize and beans is in its early stages The camera settles itself amongst the traders, slowly observing people, interiors, comments and gestures until details reveal alternative layers, noise and complexity.
De Surface (compétition FID 2008) à Song-Mountain Area (FID 2010), Fanny Zaman a largement fait preuve de toute sa curiosité, toujours vouée aux processus invisibles et insaississables. Nous voilà cette fois à la bourse agricole d’Addis Abeba. Aventure inédite pour l’Ethiopie, et plus largement pour une part de l’Afrique noire, équipée d’un système de commerce éléctronique destiné à l’échange, notamment du café et du maïs, elle y traque des secrets. D’une géographie des corps et des territoires aux langages des écrans, Fanny Zaman déplie lentement, tout en préservant, comme à son habitude du mystère, la complexité des relations générées par cette greffe de modernité.
