synopsis

Johannes Vleugels loved the sea and was the captain of a cargo ship that sailed the world. But a mysterious event in Africa during the 1970s changed his life forever. Back home, he refused to speak about it, leaving his loved ones with haunting questions. The director searches for ways to uncover the truth behind the trauma five years after the death of his grandfather.
Johannes Vleugels aimait la mer et était capitaine d’un navire de marchandises qui naviguait à travers le monde. Mais un mystérieux événement qui s’est produit en Afrique dans les années septante a changé sa vie pour toujours. De retour chez lui, il refusa d’en parler, laissant les questions obsédantes de sa compagne sans réponse. L’auteur cherche à découvrir la vérité derrière ce traumatisme cinq ans après la mort du capitaine, qui est aussi son grand-père. Mais certaines personnes du passé semblent ne pas vouloir l’aider dans sa recherche de clarté et font de l’événement traumatisant un plus grand mystère encore.
Kapitein Johannes Vleugels voelde zich op zee het meeste thuis. Met enorme goederenschepen vaarde hij de hele wereld rond. Maar een traumatiserende gebeurtenis maakte in de jaren zeventig een einde aan zijn carriere. Johannes was plots een ander mens geworden, stil en afstandelijk. Zijn geliefden probeerden hem tevergeefs aan het praten te krijgen over wat er met hem was gebeurd. En nu, vijf jaar na de dood van de kapitein, gaat zijn kleinzoon op zoek naar de oorzaak van het trauma en het ware verhaal er achter. Maar dat blijkt niet bij elke betrokkene van destijds in goede aarde te vallen, wat het mysterie alleen maar doet groeien...
