synopsis

Grands travaux is situated at the Institute Anneessens-Funck, a Dutch-speaking vocational school in the centre of Brussels where young students have come to learn an occupation. The film documents and stages that which gives shape to their lives: the practical assignments and classes at school, football, the ups and downs of their love lives, as well as the ongoing search for housing and employment. Depicting the daily life within the school walls, Grands travaux also aims at sketching an image of Brussels today, placing its youngsters at the very centre.
Grands travaux situe son action dans l’Institut Anneessens-Funck, une école professionnelle néerlandophone à Bruxelles où des jeunes issus de milieux très variés, souvent précarisés, viennent apprendre un métier à exercer au plus vite. Grands travaux documente et met en scène les différents aspects de leur vie : les cours et les exercices à l’école, le football, leurs tribulations sentimentales ainsi que la recherche d’un logement et d’un emploi. En relatant le quotidien dans l’espace confiné d’une école, c’est une image de Bruxelles aujourd’hui que tente de construire Grands travaux. Avec la jeunesse au centre.
Grands travaux speelt zich af in het Instituut Anneessens-Funck, een Nederlandstalige beroepsschool in het centrum van Brussel waar jongeren – soms overhaast – een beroep aanleren. Grands travaux documenteert en ensceneert datgene wat hun leven vormgeeft: de praktijkoefeningen en lessen op school, voetbal, hun liefdesperikelen en de zoektocht naar een woning en werk. Door het alledaagse leven binnen de schoolmuren weer te geven, wil Grands travaux ook een beeld van het hedendaagse Brussel schetsen, met haar jongeren als vertrekpunt.
