The cinematic kiss is probably one of the most archetypical images of film history. Playing with the physiological and cinematographic principle of the after-image, Nicolas Provost causes dozens of fast-edited kissing scenes from European and American film classics to collide. The reassuring world of multiplied cinematographic kisses is shattered by a stroboscopic effect that plunges us into the dizzying vertigo of the embrace.
Le baiser de cinéma est probablement l’une des images les plus archétypales dans l’histoire du cinéma. En jouant sur le principe physiologique et cinématographique de l’image d’après, Provost rassemble des douzaines de scènes d’embrassade issues de films classiques européens et américains en montage rapide. Le monde réconfortant des baisers cinématographiques multipliés vole en éclats par un effet stroboscopique qui nous plonge et nous perd dans un vertige aveuglant d’embrassades où, comme souvent dans le cinéma de Provost, l’amour devient un combat passionnel dans lequel les monstres sont finalement démasqués.
