synopsis

Edinburgh, 1874. Jack is born on the coldest day ever and his heart remains frozen. His midwife is half-witch, half-shaman. She knows how to save the baby by replacing the broken heart with a watch. This prosthesis seems to work very well, with the proviso that Jack must avoid any intense emotional charge: he cannot get excited or angry and, above all, not fall in love. But the fiery eyes of a street singer put the heart of our hero to the test: his irresistible desire to re-find her drives him on a love quest which leads him from the Scottish lochs to the arches of the Alhambra in Granada.
Edinburgh, 1874. Jack wordt geboren op de koudste dag ooit. Hierdoor blijkt zijn hart bevroren. De vroedvrouw die bij de bevalling assisteert, is half heks, half sjamaan. Zij weet de baby te redden door zijn defecte hart door een horloge te vervangen. Deze prothese lijkt uitstekend te werken, op voorwaarde dat Jack elke emotionele geladenheid weet te vermijden. Dus geen koleire en vooral geen verliefdheid. Maar de vurige ogen van een straatzangeresje stellen het gelukshart van onze held op de proef: zijn onweerstaanbare wil om haar terug te vinden, drijft hem in en liefdesqueeste die van de Schotse lochs tot onder de bogen van het Alhambra in Grenada leidt en hem zowel de geneugten als de wreedheid van de liefde leert kennen.
