In 2008, Sarajevo-born but Holland-based director Sergej Kreso goes on the road with Congolese-Belgian musician Jack Roskam through Croatia, Bosnia and Serbia to meet the former members of his band Galija for the first time since the Balkan war.

synopsis

In 1972, a dart on a map of Europe changes the life of Congolese-Belgian musician Jack Roskam: he moves to Croatia, then part of Yugoslavia. After a career as a guitar player in well-known local band Galija, he is confronted with the Balkan war. While his colleagues start to sing politically-oriented Serbian songs, Jack decides to defend the Croatian community which adopted him, and exchanges his Fender guitar for a Kalashnikov. En 1972, une fléchette sur la carte de l’Europe change la vie du musicien Belgo-Congolais Jack Roskam: il part en Croatie, qui à l’époque faisait partie de la Yougoslavie. Après une carrière en tant que guitariste dans un groupe local assez connu, Galija, il doit faire face à la guerre des Balkans. Alors que ses collègues commencent à chanter des chansons politiquement engagées pour soutenir le côté serbe, Jack décide de défendre la communauté croate qui l’a adopté. Il échange sa guitare Fender contre une kalachnikov. En 2008, le réalisateur Sergej Kreso, né à Sarajevo mais installé aux Pays-Bas, s’engage avec Jack dans un voyage à travers la Croatie, la Bosnie et la Serbie pour rencontrer les anciens membres de Galija pour la première fois depuis la guerre. Malgré leurs choix différents, Jack et Sergej sont-ils restés fidèles à leurs principes?
