Jack has a tenor saxophone and he plays jazz. In the 1950s, in the Belgian harbor town Antwerp, there is not a lot of future for a jazz musician. Jack and his band try to earn a living by playing at weddings and the odd tea party, usually resulting in mixed emotions and hilarious scenes. Most of the time, he earns a living by unloading bananas in the Antwerp docks. Jack is convinced that New York is the place to be for a jazz musician, but where will he get the money for the big trip? And what is more important: a woman or a saxophone?

synopsis

Jack joue du jazz avec son saxophone ténor. Dans les années 50, dans la ville portuaire d’Anvers, il n’y a pas beaucoup d’avenir pour un musicien de jazz. Jack et son groupe essaient de gagner de quoi vivre en jouant lors de mariages et de thés dansants qui se terminent souvent en émotions variées et en scènes hilarantes. La plupart du temps, Jack gagne sa vie en déchargeant des cargaisons de bananes dans le port d’Anvers. Jack est convaincu que New York est l’endroit idéal pour un musicien de jazz, mais où trouvera-t-il l’argent pour faire un si long voyage ? Et qu’est-ce qui est le plus important : une femme, ou un saxophone ?
