Life And Death In The Country consists of two medium-length films, which together form a single story. Both films are based on works of famous Flemish writers. In The Farmer's Death, Nand, a Flemish farmer is dying. He looks back on his life, which mainly consisted of working and sleeping. In The Water tells us the story of Jan Boele. He is told by his priest to marry Tale Siepers, who gave birth to his child, but Jan doesn't love her.

In The Farmer's Death, Nand, a Flemish farmer is dying. He looks back on his life, which mainly consisted of working and sleeping. In The Water tells us the story of Jan Boele. He is told by his priest to marry Tale Siepers, who gave birth to his child, but Jan doesn't love her. He's in love with another girl, the daughter of a rich farmer. During their wedding celebration, he leaves, closely followed by Tale. They both walk along the river and when Jan walks into the river, Tale follows him. They both drown...Based on the work of Karel Van de Woestijne and Stijn Streuvels.
Life and Death in Flanders consiste en deux moyens métrages, formant ensemble une seule histoire. Les deux films s’inspirent des œuvres d’écrivains flamands célèbres. Dans The farmer’s death, nous assistons à la mort de Nand, un fermier flamand. Il revient sur sa vie, qui se résume pratiquement à travailler et à dormir. In the water nous raconte l’histoire de Jan Boele. Un prêtre lui dit d’épouser Tale Siepers, qui a donné naissance à son enfant, mais Jan ne l’aime pas. Il est amoureux d’une autre fille, la fille d’un fermier fortuné. Au cours de leur célébration de mariage, il prend congé, suivit de près par Tale. Ils marchent tous les deux le long de la rivière et lorsque Jan plonge dans celle-ci, Tale le suit. Ils se noient tous les deux ...
