11 March, 2002. John R. takes the head of security and 17 others hostage in Amsterdam's biggest skyscraper. John R. demands to speak with the CEO of Dutch electronics giant Philips. His goal is to warn people about a large-scale fraud, aimed at brainwashing consumers by means of widescreen TV sets. In the film, we find out about John's preliminary frustrations, his bizarre encounter with Philips CEO Gerard Wesselinck, their impossible friendship, rivalry and John's armed attempt to force the executive to do penance in public.
11 Mars 2002. John R. prend le chef de la sécurité et 17 autres personnes en otage dans le plus haut gratte-ciel d’Amsterdam. John R. demande à parler avec le PDG de Philips, le géant de l’électronique allemand. Son but est d’alerter les gens à propos de la fraude à grande échelle, dont le but est de faire un lavage de cerveau aux consommateurs à l’aide de larges écrans de TV. Dans le film, nous en apprenons plus sur les frustrations initiales de John, son étrange rencontre avec Gerard Wesselinck, le PDG de Philips, leur amitié possible, la rivalité, et la tentative armée de John d’obliger le cadre à présenter ses excuses en public.
