Lorsque la fille qu’il a l’intention d’épouser meurt, un jeune homme doit faire face à un futur entièrement neuf. Avec l’aide d’un ami et de la nature l’entourant, il s’en remet doucement et décide de laisser tomber son style de vie antérieur. Il adopte un nouveau nom, Pallieter, et décide de prendre de la nature ce qu’elle a à offrir. Comblé par son propre bonheur, après avoir épousé une fille de la campagne, les choses s’empirent.
