After the Vietnamese army liberated Cambodia from the Khmer Rouge regime, it was a shock for Western democracies to discover that this government had murdered hundreds of thousands of its own people. But very soon, Cambodia was stricken off the political agenda and the Cambodian people fell into oblivion. Nevertheless the Khmer Rouge still continued to exist under the leadership of the enigmatic Pol Pot. Even today, very little is known about his person.
