synopsis

Inspired by a true story. The Arab Spring forces Tunisian Nazir, married to the pregnant Dutch hairdresser Kimmy, to escape to Europe but he ends up in Lampedusa, imprisoned as an illegal refugee. Rafaël is a romantic drama about two lovers giving everything they have, just to be reunited for the birth of their son Rafaël. It is a suspenseful story about borders, dreams, perseverance and love-transcending bureaucracy, and even prison walls.
Geïnspireerd door een waargebeurd verhaal. Rafaël is een spannend verhaal over dromen, standvastigheid en grenzeloze liefde. Gebaseerd op ware gebeurtenissen vertelt Rafaël het aangrijpende, soms ongelooflijke verhaal van de Nederlandse Kimmy en Tunesische Nazir. Wanneer Nazir aan het begin van de Arabische Lente geen visum krijgt om in Nederland bij de geboorte van zijn zoon te kunnen zijn, besluit hij illegaal de oversteek naar Europa te maken. Tijdens deze helse reis krijgt hij alleen hulp van zijn hoogzwangere vrouw. Het verhaal dat in 2011 zelfs het wereldnieuws haalde verscheen eerder in boekvorm in de gelijknamige, hartverscheurende roman van schrijfster Christine Otten.
