synopsis

Blaise, the youngest of the family, feels a void in his life: his father, Flemish sculptor Reinhoud, died two years ago. A very public man and member of the Cobra Movement, he never spoke about his painful past life nor about the ambiguous relationship he had with his native country of Belgium, which he left 30 years before. His father was already old when Blaise, the maker of this film, was born. Blaise searches through all the interviews and numerous archival photos and videos in order to discover who his father really was.
Blaise, le cadet de la famille, ressent un manque: son père, le sculpteur flamand Reinhoud, est mort depuis deux ans. Homme public, appartenant au mouvement Cobra, il ne lui a pas parlé de son passé familial douloureux, ni des rapports ambigus avec son pays, la Belgique, qu'il a quittée à 30 ans. Il était déjà âgé quand il devient père du réalisateur. Blaise cherche dans les interviews et dans les nombreuses archives photos et vidéos à mieux connaître son père et son œuvre.
Blaise D'haese, de maker van deze film, verloor in 2007 zijn vader, de Vlaamse beeldhouwer Reinhoud. Hij filmde zijn vader tijdens de laatste 2 jaren van zijn leven. Blaise voelt een gemis in zijn leven: zijn vader, de Vlaamse beeldhouwer Reinhoud, een erg publieke persoonlijkheid en vooraanstaand lid van de Cobra-beweging, heeft hij nooit over zijn moeilijk familiaal verleden willen praten, noch over zijn ambigue verstandhouding met zijn vaderland België, dat hij op zijn dertigste had verlaten. Hij had al een gezegende leeftijd toen zijn jongste telg, Blaise D’haese ter wereld kwam. Aan de hand van de enorme foto- en filmarchieven en gesprekken met familie en vrienden, reveleert regisseur Blaise D’haese het leven, passie en werk van zijn vader Reinhoud D’Haese.
