Reverie is the daydream of a bird who fantasises about escaping from its cage.

synopsis

As a bird takes us on a fantasy journey through the streets of Paris, we also see things from the perspective of its owner, a young woman. She, in desperate pursuit of her beloved pet, tries to catch up while it flies over the grand boulevards and the Seine. Reverie creates a vision set in an imaginary world that is slightly different from our daily routine and evokes the intense feeling that dreams often give us. To obtain this dreamy, surreal atmosphere, the creators have chosen to work with black-and-white images instead of colour, and to use music and sounds rather than dialogue.
Rêverie verbeeldt de dagdroom van een vogel in zijn kooi. Het verhaal heeft allerlei uiterlijke kenmerken van de droomwereld, een wereld die parallel loopt aan het leven van alledag en minstens net zo intens kan zijn. Iedereen zal het gevoel herkennen dat je, wanneer je ontwaakt, terug wilt keren naar de droomtoestand waarin de dingen zich eenvoudigweg voltrekken en je zelf slechts toeschouwer bent. Sommige dromen laten een wonderlijk of intens gevoel achter dat fel contrasteert met de dagelijkse sleur. De realisatie van deze kortfilm zal een zelfde frisse duik in het irreële zijn. De opeenvolging van de seizoenen roept het gevoel van vergankelijkheid op. De toeschouwer wordt overvallen door iets vluchtigs en ongrijpbaars, iets wat een vervreemdende en onbestemde sfeer achterlaat.

In Rêverie gaan Oscar en Tobias Spierenburg (scenario/regie) de uitdaging aan om de kant van de vogel te belichten, de drang naar vrijheid van het dier - ten opzichte van de mens, in deze film een jonge vrouw. De gemoedstoestand van de jonge vrouw wordt verbeeld in contrast met het vrijheidsgevoel van de vogel. Het atypische karakter komt te liggen in de eenvoud en de verstilling. Er wordt geen woord gesproken.
