Can non-romantic love be the weapon of revolution? Based on Soviet revolutionary Alexandra Kollontai’s reflections on sexuality, emancipation and family, this film draws on 20th Century feminist history and merges it with angry and tender scenes from the current Latin American transfeminist movement.

synopsis

(Revolution, fulfil your promise) Red Love takes sounds and images from the 2023 film Amor Rojo and completely re-edits them, adding extensive new archival material to achieve greater directness and radical political focus. Leaning heavily the political pamphlets and personal diaries of Soviet revolutionary and sexual activist Alexandra Kollontai, the film traces a complex web of connections, between 20th Century European Marxist feminism and 21st Century Latin American fourth wave of feminisms, between personal and collective grief, between a myriad ways of understanding what female might mean, and between the melancholic gaze of disenchantment and the furious and assertive demand that the revolution finally fulfils its promise.
