synopsis

Rites of Resistance - a way through.... is a contemplative film based on a collection of poems triggered by the seemingly simple obligation of the artist to create - an idea explored in Samuel Beckett's writing 'Textes pour rien', which accompanied the director while developing this film. Image after image, word after word, this obligation manifests itself. The film is a relentless flow of words (thinking, speaking, script) and the simultaneous perception of things seen and unseen in the world (intuition, colour, texture, body). Through a typographic approach, poetic compositions emerge with word as image, word as sound, word as texture. Image, sound, texture are living a quiet life of meaning.
Rites of Resistance is een contemplatieve film gebaseerd op een collectie gedichten van de hand van regisseur Miki Ambrozy. De gedichten ontsproten uit de ogenschijnlijk simpele drang van de kunstenaar om te creëren – een idee wat in Samuel Becketts ‘textes pour rien’ wordt onderzocht en dat Ambrozy vergezelde tijdens het schrijven van de film.
Beeld na beeld, woord na woord, manifesteert deze drang zich. De film is een meedogenloze stroom van woorden (denken, spreken, schrijven) en de gelijktijdige waarneming van het zichtbare en het onzichtbare in de wereld: intuïtie, kleur, textuur, lichaam. Door middel van een typografische aanpak ontstaan poëtische composities met woorden als beeld, als geluid, als textuur.
De woorden in de film verzetten zich tegen een vaste positie, letterlijk en metaforisch. De fotorealistische beelden zijn een abstractie van het alledaagse, van licht en duisternis, concreet en mystiek, nu en dan. Hun schoonheid manifesteert zich door hun ijver om simpelweg ‘te zijn’.
