synopsis

Fourteen-year-old Shabu lives The Paperclip, a block of flats in one of the most notorious neighbourhoods of Rotterdam South. He dreams of becoming a famous musician. Through his eyes, we enter this vibrant and exciting neighbourhood, a colourful, loving environment where everyone knows and supports each other.
Shabu (14) is een lieve, creatieve en street smart jongen uit Rotterdam-Zuid. Nadat hij tijdens een joyride de auto van zijn oma total loss rijdt, is zijn hele familie boos op hem. Hij heeft een zomer de tijd om het goed te maken, voordat zijn oma weer terugkomt van vakantie in Suriname. Zijn moeder stelt voor dat hij ijslolly’s gaat verkopen om met de opbrengsten de schade te betalen, maar dat zet geen zoden aan de dijk. Dus bedenkt hij een andere oplossing waarbij hij de aantrekkelijke zaken van de zwoele zomer, zijn muzikale talent én geld verdienen kan combineren. Zou het lukken om zijn familie, maar vooral zijn oma, weer trots te maken?
