Depuis la mort de sa jeune femme, Hugues a mené une existence pleine de mélancolie. Tous les jours, il se promène à travers les rues sombres de Brugge, seul. Jusqu'à ce qu'il rencontre une jeune femme dont l'étonnante ressemblance avec sa défunte femme l'entraîne dans la confusion.
