synopsis

In Still From Afar, Eva van Tongeren translates a months-long correspondence between the convicted paedophile Thomas and herself into an audiovisual monologue. The correspondence forces them to adjust their thoughts to the rhythm of each other's letters. His imagination takes her to deserts where westerns are filmed, along the largest trees in the world, to the busy streets of Los Angeles. She sends him fragments of memories that will never be his.
In Van ver staat het stil vertaalt Eva van Tongeren een maandenlange briefwisseling met de veroordeelde en opgesloten pedofiel Thomas naar een audiovisuele monoloog. De correspondentie dwingt hen om hun gedachten aan te passen aan het ritme van elkaars brieven. Zijn verbeelding brengt haar naar woestijnen waar western-films worden opgenomen, langs de grootste bomen ter wereld tot de drukke straten van Los Angeles. Ze stuurt hem fragmenten van herinneringen die nooit de zijne zullen zijn.
