De ontmoeting tussen een vuurtorenwachter en een jonge prins voert deze laatste naar een imaginaire wereld, Taxandria. In deze fantastische omgeving leidt de vuurtorenwachter de jonge prins naar inzicht over de kracht van de liefde en de waarde van de vrijheid.
