synopsis

A Long Goodbye is the story of Ida, a 72-year-old pianist living with dementia. When her husband Louis knew their remaining time together might be short, he made tape recordings, hoping to stay connected and to bring back some of their shared memories to her. We experience a day in Ida’s life as her reality is fading. Her world starts empty and undefined, but when we interact with objects in her apartment and play the tape recordings of her husband Louis, her world gradually comes to life, as if drawn in paint before our eyes. As Ida rediscovers herself, we discover Ida.
A Long Goodbye is a magical experience about the impact of dementia, loneliness and loss, but above all about love.
