When a donkey visits a nursing home, the reaction is not always the same.

synopsis

For five days, Sarah Vanagt and cinematographer Annemarie Lean-Vercoe followed a donkey during its weekly visits to old people in nursing homes in the UK. Time and again, the donkey was welcomed with open arms, songs, gentle strokes, childhood stories, poems and laughter. It was only when the donkey entered the room of Norbert, a man who had lost his ability to speak, that an altogether different encounter took place and created a different film...
Pendant cinq jours Sarah Vanagt et la cinéaste Annemarie Lean-Vercoe ont suivi un âne pendant sa visite hebdomadaire dans des maisons de retraite en Angleterre. De maison en maison, de chambre en chambre. Une fois encore, l’âne a été accueilli à bras ouverts, avec des chants, des caresses, des histoires d’enfance, des poèmes et des rires. C’est uniquement lorsque l’âne entra dans la chambre de Norbert, un homme qui a perdu la parole, qu’une rencontre différente eu lieu. Même si au départ Vanagt suivait l’âne à la recherche des souvenirs soulevés par la présence muette de l’animal, elle revint à la maison avec un tout autre film. Au cours du montage, le film devint de plus en plus court, comme si les mots qui ont accompagné la visite de l’âne étaient devenus une distraction. Ce qu’il en reste est peut-être un bas-relief camouflé dans une peinture, camouflée comme un film.
