synopsis

Paul was blinded in an accident when he was four. He has lived with his father, Eric, since the death of his mother. Eric persuades his now 23-year-old son to have an operation that will restore his sight of one eye. But a long and frustrating road lies ahead before he can learn to see again. A psychologist helps him to recognise colours and forms, then objects and perspective, by means of visual stimuli. Finally he is taught to recognise faces and individuals. Little by little, the psychologist discovers that Paul continues to see images of his mother.
Paul est aveugle depuis un accident qui s’est produit lorsqu’il avait quatre ans. Depuis la mort de sa mère, il vit avec son père Eric. Eric convainc son fils, aujourd’hui âgé de 23 ans, de subir une opération qui lui permettrait de retrouver la vue de l’un de ses yeux. Mais un parcours long et frustrant l’attend avant qu’il ne puisse réapprendre à voir. Un psychologue l’aide à reconnaître les couleurs et les formes, puis les objets et les perspectives, à l’aide de stimuli visuels. Enfin, on lui apprend à reconnaître les visages et les personnes. Petit à petit, le psychologue découvre que Paul continue à voir des images de sa mère.
