Antwerp’s complicity in the persecution of its Jewish population during WWII is tackled head-on in this frank documentary.

synopsis

In the summer of 1942, the Jews of Antwerp are arrested and deported. The German occupier can rely on the help of many in the city: the mayor, the local police, but also on many ordinary citizens who look away and do nothing. We have been silent about this involvement for far too long.
In de zomer van 1942 worden de Antwerpse Joden massaal gearresteerd en gedeporteerd. Tachtig jaar later ontmoet een groep zesdejaars van een superdiverse school in Antwerpen enkele nabestaanden van Joodse families die toen werden weggevoerd. Ze ontmoeten ook (klein)zonen van de mannen die bij de razzia’s betrokken waren. Over onze collectieve verantwoordelijkheid voor wat er die zomer is misgelopen, zijn we veel te lang stil gebleven. Wat kunnen we vandaag nog uit dat verleden leren?
