A personal exploration about the circumstances which lead to seven-year-old Vibe living with her grandparents.

synopsis

Seven-year-old Vibe lives with her grandparents. At the weekends, she travels over 100 kilometres to visit her parents. The magic of childhood slowly fades to make way for reality and it is at this turning point I ask her how all this came to be. The answer leads me from the idyllic landscapes of Moerkerke to Vibe's mother, my sister Britt, who lives behind closed curtains, isolated from the outside world. In an audiovisual play of seeing and being seen, of words and silence, I join mother and daughter in an indirect dialogue. Through it, I try to answer Vibe's questions - as well as a few of my own.
Vibe, sept ans, vit avec ses grands-parents. Tous les week-ends, elle traverse une centaine de kilomètres pour rendre visite à ses parents. La magie de l’enfance laisse peu à peu la place à la réalité. C’est à ce moment crucial que je lui demande comment tout cela est arrivé. La réponse me conduit dans les paysages de Moerkerke où habite Britt, ma soeur et la mère de Vibe. Elle vit derrière des rideaux fermés, isolée du monde extérieur. Dans un jeu audiovisuel d’observateur et d’observé, de mots et de silences, je relie la mère et la fille par un dialogue indirect. En faisant cela, j’essaie de répondre aux questions de Vibe, ainsi qu’à quelques-unes de mes propres questions.
De zevenjarige Vibe woont tijdens de week bij haar grootouders en in het weekend bij haar ouders, meer dan 100km verder. Ze begint zich vragen te stellen bij haar ongewone gezinssituatie. In een onrechtstreekse dialoog tussen moeder en dochter tracht ik deze situatie weer te geven.
