synopsis

The pomp and savagery of a Belgian hunt group is exposed in Waidmannsheil (Hail To the Good Shooter) which scrutinises, with icy detachment, the rituals of a wily group of bourgeois weekend warriors as they compete to kill deer in a pastoral landscape. They trespass the silent woods and play a strategic game in which all resources are concentrated on the capture of their treasured prey. It is a mystical experience, centred around the encounter with wildlife - a matter of pride for the man and a matter of life and death for the animal.
La brutalité d’un groupe de chasseurs belges est exposée dans ce travail de cinéma direct plein de suspens et parfois ironique. Waidmannsheil ‘Hail to the good shooter explore avec un détachement glacial les rituels d’un groupe de bourgeois pendant un weekend alors qu’ils prévoient de tuer des cerfs dans un paysage bucolique.
