Tomasz, un réfugié polonais, est à la recherche d’une jeune femme qui les a aidés, lui et sa mère, à passer de l’autre côté du Rideau de Fer. Pour la trouver, il vit dans la ville d’Anvers dans de terribles circonstances. Lorsqu’il trouve enfin la jeune femme, les circonstances ne lui permettent aucune issue de secours.
