A poetic look at Argentina Mina, a Bolivian mining camp at 4,800 metres above sea level, in which the harsh realities of a life dependant on chance cause the miners to invoke 'El Tio'.

synopsis

When the Bull Cried offers a poetic look on a mystical mining camp high up on a Bolivian mountain, where life evolves around tin. Men and women of all ages search for their luck in the belly of a powerful peak, which they rip open with dynamite. Work in the ice-cold mine-shafts is heavy and dangerous, so the miners ask 'El Tio', the Lord of the Darkness, for protection by honouring him with copious amounts of alcohol. When the mountain eventually stops rewarding them with mineral, life gets even tougher, so they prepare for an offer to pay it back.
In een afgelegen mijnkamp hoog in de Boliviaanse Andes draait het leven rond de ontginning van tin. Mannen en vrouwen beproeven er hun geluk in de buik van een immense berg die ze te lijf gaan met dynamiet. Het werk in de ijskoude donkere mijnschachten is loodzwaar en gevaarlijk. Daarom vragen de mijnwerkers bescherming aan el Tío, de heerser van de onderwereld, die ze dagelijks vereren met sloten alcohol. Wanneer hun inspanningen niet meer beloond worden met mineraal maken de mijnwerkers zich klaar voor een ultiem offer aan de machtige berg.
