Ellen Vanderlaan graduated with the highest grade-point average in her class and goes to Spitsbergen, close to the Northpole, to spend a year living with a furtrapper named Lars. In one of the few places in the world where nature still rules, Ellen quickly realises she has to adapt if she is going to survive.

synopsis

Ellen Vanderlaan graduated with the highest grade-point average in her class. Now she can pretty much do what she wants ... so she goes to Spitsbergen, close to the Northpole, to spend a year living with a furtrapper named Lars. In one of the few places in the world where nature still rules, Ellen quickly realises she has to adapt if she is going to survive. Lars is not exactly the rugged frontiersman she expected. Poor communication and the fact that Lars is constantly trying to bed the only woman he has seen for over a year, make that the atmosphere in the wooden hut is as icy as the temperature outside. However, as time passes, Ellen teaches Lars English and the finer points of basic housekeeping. In return, Lars teaches Ellen how to skin seals and drive a team of sledge huskies. Soon she realises that Lars' life is as pure as life can get.Based on the novel of Heleen Van der Laan.
Ellen Vanderlaan a réussi son année avec la meilleure moyenne de sa classe. Elle peut désormais faire ce que bon lui semble... Elle part alors pour Spitzberg, près du Pôle Nord, pour y passer une année avec un chasseur de fourrure du nom de Lars. Dans l’une des rares places au monde où la nature a encore le dernier mot. Très vite, Ellen se rend compte qu’elle va devoir s’adapter si elle veut survivre. Lars n’est pas vraiment l’homme robuste habitant de la frontière qu’elle espérait. Le peu de communication et le fait que Lars essaie en permanence de coucher avec la seule femme qu’il ait vue en un an, rendent la température à l’intérieur de la cabane en bois aussi glaciale que celle à l’extérieur. Pourtant, au fil du temps, Ellen apprend à Lars à parler anglais et lui enseigne les différentes tâches ménagères. En retour, Lars apprend à Ellen à enlever la peau des phoques et à conduire une horde de chiens de traîneau. Peu à peu, elle se rend compte que la vie de Lars est la vie la plus pure qu’il soit.
