For a long time the world considered him to be a philanthropist who brought civilisation to the poor African blacks. The truth was different, cruel and shocking. This is the story of a man who was a visionary and a genius but who used his talents exclusively for his own success: a man who used every single means at his disposal to gain wealth, no matter what the cost. 'Let them judge me when I'm dead,' was one of his sayings. This is exactly what this film will do.
Leopold II, Roi de Belgique, voulait une colonie privée et l’a eue ! Les pouvoirs internationaux lui donnèrent l’Etat libre du Congo. Pendant longtemps, le monde le considérait comme un philanthrope qui apporta la civilisation aux pauvres noirs africains. La vérité était toute autre, cruelle et choquante. C’est l’histoire d’un homme qui était un visionnaire et un génie mais utilisait ses talents uniquement pour son propre succès : un homme qui utilisait tous les moyens à sa dispositions pour gagner de l’argent, peu importe leur nature. « Laissez-les me juger quand je serai mort » était l’une de ses citations.
