In contemporary Albania, women are still considered to be of little importance. An ancient book of laws - the Koran - condemns them to be slaves to their husbands. In certain circumstances they can be chosen to become a man, with all the rights and power attached, but in return they have to swear to stay virgins all their life. The film looks at three of them and examines their role in Albanian society.
