One of those made redundant is Fabrice who, at thirty-five, is proud of his trade rendered mythical by fire and steel, but feels he has become useless.

Belgium 1980. On the banks of the Meuse river, against the enormous background of a steel-producing city, factories close one after another and lay off workers. One of those made redundant is Fabrice who, at thirty-five, is proud of his trade rendered mythical by fire and steel, but feels he has become useless. His wife, Céline, tries to renew his interest in life. Despite a few moments of rediscovered happiness, Fabrice remains trapped in his confusion and one day disappears... Céline, her intense love leading the way, goes looking for and eventually finds him. Once again, she tries to save him from himself. Can love reuscitate a languishing man? That is Céline's wager.
Belgique 1980. Sur les rives de la Meuse, face au gigantesque arrière-plan d’une ville productrice d’acier, les usines ferment les unes après les autres et licencient les ouvriers. L’un de ces licenciés est Fabrice qui, à l’âge de 35 ans, est fier de ses services rendus pour le feu et l’acier, mais a l’impression d’être devenu inutile. Céline, sa femme, essaie de lui redonner goût à la vie. Malgré quelques moments de bonheur retrouvé, Fabrice demeure dans sa confusion et un jour, il disparaît.... Céline, son amour intense la conduisant, part à sa recherche et finit par le retrouver. Une fois encore, elle tente de le sauver de son mal-être intérieur. L’amour peut-il ressusciter un homme langoureux ? C’est le défi de Céline.
België, 1980. In de staalindustrie aan de oever van de Maas sluit de ene fabriek na de andere zijn deuren waardoor vele arbeiders op straat komen te staan. Eén van de afgedankte werknemers is Fabrice, 35 en trots op zijn stiel. Na zijn ontslag wordt hij overmand door het gevoel nutteloos te zijn. Céline, de vrouw van Fabrice, probeert hem nieuwe levenslust in te blazen. Dit lukt zo nu en dan, maar de verslagenheid blijft groot. Op een dag verdwijnt Fabrice plots... Céline gaat naar hem op zoek, geleid door de liefde. Wanneer ze Fabrice vindt, biedt ze hem een laatste keer steun om zich tegen zichzelf te beschermen. Kan liefde deze strijd winnen? Céline gaat de uitdaging aan.
